The AKC is a not-for-profit organization that promotes purebred dogs for breeding types and function. There are many breeders out there but not all are registered with the AKC. Finding an AKC breeder can be tough and you have to ask if their dogs are AKC registered and sometimes it’s listed on their site. AKC is a way to know your dog is coming from a reputable breeder however it doesn’t necessarily guarantee health. There are many dogs who are AKC registered and still can be unhealthy. A good breeder breeds for quality, health and temperament. Finding an AKC breeder is just one of the many things you can look for in a breeder. AKC holds a long lineage of the purebred dogs of all breeds.
According the the AKC, French Bulldogs are ranked #2 most popular dog breeds. They moved up from position 5 years back. French Bulldogs are literally everywhere from Target ads to your next door neighbor adding a Frenchie to their family. There is a reason they are popular and we explain that in our previous posts about the popularity of Frenchies and why they are the best dog breed, ever!
When you buy a dog, not just a Frenchie, knowing their lineage is important. If you have a busy family and not a ton of time during the day to walk your dog 2-5 times a day a Frenchie might be for you! Other dog breeds are high activity where Frenchies are not (usually). Most Frenchies are a happy mix between playful and couch potato. Not all dogs are the same. When you buy a dog that is a purebred AKC registered with a healthy lineage of dogs, you know where they came from, their background and you can expect what their general personality traits and characteristics are. We’ve had many families buy a dog from us that started with a dog they didn’t know much about his lineage and ended up hurting their child. This was devastating to the family. They bought a Frenchie because of their gentle nature and how good they are with children. We are big advocates of doing what is best for you and your family. There are many pros and cons to buying a purebred dog vs. non-purebred dog but knowing the background of a dog is important and genetics do matter! Each dog carries a different line of genetics that play a huge part in their behaviors. In our Frenchie line, one of our main breeding standards other than health is temperament. We believe that temperament and well-behaved dogs who are loving, sweet and gentle. We’ve had many dogs that go to homes with children and babies, emotional support homes and to elderly couples and singles who are looking for a gentle companion. When adding a dog to your household, you want to do what is best for you and your family.
